What are Academies?

Academies are state-funded independent schools. Academies benefit from greater freedoms and flexibilities in order to innovate and raise standards within the school and the local community.
Academies receive the same amount of per-pupil funding as local authority schools but have the freedom to budget according to the specific needs of their students
