Pupils at TKAT's Kemnal Technology College win £1,000 for charity in 'First Give' competition

Posted on: 14th Jan 2022

Year 9 pupils at Kemnal Technology College have been taking part in a 'First Give' (www.Firstgive.co.uk) programme since September. During their PSE classes, students have been learning and researching local charities, and communicating with them, on how best to support the issues the charities target.

As part of the programme, students were tasked with planning, implementing and reflecting on social action, during KTC’s First Give Social Action week. During this week, lots of money was raised for charities including Centrepoint UK, Victim Support, 2nd Chance Animal Rescue and Power the Fight.

To complete the programme, members of the class presented on stage to a panel of judges, guests and the rest of the year group. In an X-factor style competition, the standard of competition was high.

After much deliberation from the judges the group representing Power the Fight, an organisation which helps to empower communities to end youth violence, were judged to be the winners and received the cheque for £1,000 for the charity. Find out more about Power The Fight HERE

Emma Wride, Deputy Headteacher said:

'It was fantastic to be able to put on this type of event again in schools, and it was great to see the effort the year 9s had put into important social issues and develop throughout the First Give programme. The Final was a great demonstration of all their efforts'

A huge congratulation to all students who presented in the final and took part in the whole programme. All students found it highly beneficial and are looking forward to continuing work with their chosen charities.
