Pupils at TKAT's Hylands School reach 'First Give' charity final

Posted on: 1st Apr 2022

Year 9 pupils at TKAT's Hylands School in Essex have been taking part in a 'First Give' (www.Firstgive.co.uk) programme since October. During Tutor time, students researched local charities, presented their choices within their tutor group and voted on which charity their Tutor should represent.

The charities chosen were Kids Inspire, CARA, Change project and Sanctus; all excellent local charities.

Once they had met their Charities the students were tasked with planning, implementing and reflecting on social action. Many fun activities were planned such as cake stalls, penalty shoot outs, football match, comfy shoes day, guess how many sweets in the jar and a treats sale.

To complete the programme, members of the class presented on stage to a panel of judges, representatives from the charities and the rest of the year group.

After much deliberation from the judges the group representing CARA, an organisation which helps with rape and abuse in Essex, were judged to be the winners and received the cheque for £1,000 for the charity.

It was very close and there was a special shout out for Ryan Touhey who the Judges felt presented his charity's case very well.

Head of Year 9, Mrs Field said:

“The pupils did a wonderful job and made me extremely proud of them; this takes much time, effort, dedication and teamwork. They represented the school well and made an impact on the charities they supported.”
