TKAT’s 2022 safeguarding conference ’The Child’s Voice’ is a success

On Thursday 28 April, teaching and learning professionals from across the Trust joined together to attend the 2022 TKAT Safeguarding Conference.

Approximately one hundred colleagues attended the event to learn about the latest research, insights and perspectives from several expert guest speakers.

The invited speakers included:

Colin Stitt  (Head of Services for Safer Schools), who spoke about the Safer Schools App, which benefits TKAT schools by helping to support parents, pupils and students around safeguarding issues.

Paul McKenzie (Youth Unity) talked about his film making and use of audio recordings to capture young people’s opinions and experiences of life during lockdown.

James Hensman (Safer Streets project) gave a presentation about the risks experienced by young people and the impact on exploitation.

Karl Lodge (CPOMS StaffSafe) spoke about StaffSafe, a resource available to TKAT schools to ensure safe recruitment and HR monitoring. He gave a demonstration on how CPOMS has revolutionised safeguarding in schools.

Liz Harrison (Deputy CEO, TKAT) gave information about safeguarding experiences across the Trust and the lessons learned.

Sara Walton (TKAT Senior Safeguarding & SEND Lead) presented on the learning from a recent Safeguarding Practice Review. This session included group discussions which enabled participants to strengthen their practice.
