EACH-B trial

Two Year 8 classes at TKAT's Havant Academy have had the opportunity to take part in a large-scale research programme with the University of Southampton and the Lifelab facility at University Hospital Southampton.

There are 50 schools across Hampshire taking part and over 2,000 students will be involved. The research programme is called EACH-B (Engaging Adolescents in Changing Behaviour) and is exploring how best to support young people to lead healthy and happy lives.

The Year 8s completed questionnaires online about their eating habits, their activity levels and their wellbeing. They will also be wearing activity tracker watches for a week, so the researchers can monitor exactly how much activity they do every day.

Next year, when these students are in Year 9, they will measure any changes in their lifestyle habits over the last twelve months, and will get the opportunity to go to the University in Southampton and visit Lifelab where they will do lots of fun practical activities focused around measuring their own health.

Havant Academy will also benefit from all the Lifelab teaching resources and materials.

The Year 8s really enjoyed taking part in real scientific research!

Many thanks to the Science Department, Millie Barrett and Sarah Shaw at the University of Southampton.
