Target Audience:

SLT Attendance Leads, who will cascade this training by leading Staff CPD and Parent Engagement sessions are the intended audience. However Attendance Officers or other interested parties such as Home/School Liaison Officers or ACE Mentors are also welcome to attend.

Overview:

This session will be formed of two parts:-

The first section will look at themes of ‘best practice’ in how schools manage and develop their parental engagement with a particular focus on Attendance matters.

The second section will be a sharing of materials that can be fully personalised by schools, to either form the cornerstone of CPD for your school staff or for your parent body. For example, you may like to use these materials as part of an input at parents evenings, or for a workshop with a selected group of parents who may be struggling to secure positive attendance for their child.

For both sections, the emphasis will be on low effort/high impact strategies that strengthen the relationship between home and school, increase communication and develop shared understanding of the benefits, complexities and challenges of securing good attendance.

Additional Information:

Delegates should spend a few minutes accessing their school website as an ‘external user’ to see how easy it is to find information about Attendance matters. Please try this through a phone as well as a desktop and also consider the accessibility and clarity of this information; for example for those with literacy needs, limited IT access (such as only through a phone) or those for whom English is not their first language.
