JAMES GAMBLE QPM DELIVERS KEYNOTE SPEECH AT TKAT SAFEGUARDING CONFERENCE

Posted on: 20th May 2021

TKAT safeguarding leads Sara Walton and Scott Wilson organised an extremely well received, thought-provoking and moving online safeguarding conference this week for over 80 colleagues.

Speakers included James Gamble QPM, a former policeman who spoke about online risks experienced by children and young people. He shared some of the most important things for parents to be aware of when their children are using social media.

A Safeguarding Nurse from the NHS spoke about the increasing concerns in our health services over the number of children reporting mental health issues. She also gave delegates really useful advice on spotting the early warning signs and accessing advice and support.

Our final speaker, Miriam, gave an exceptionally brave talk about her own real life experience of coercive control and how domestic abuse has such a devastating impact on families. It was an incredibly moving end to the conference. She spoke about the J9 Initiative https://www.saferplaces.co.uk/j9-initiative and support available through Refuge https://www.refuge.org.uk/.

Thank you to all involved.
