Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Development Day at TKAT

Posted on: 23rd Nov 2022

Over 60 TKAT SENDCos, Headteachers and other senior leaders joined forces from across the Trust to attend a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Development Day on 18th November.

The day started by exploring the TKAT culture and values and moved on to hear about the support and training available from our special school provisions.

The TKAT Inclusion Strategy and priorities for the year were discussed and attendees collaborated in regional groups to identify existing provision and resources as well as areas for development.

An evidenced-based approach to supporting every pupil to succeed in the classroom was explored, as well as planning the next steps towards implementing this as our universal offer.

Guest speakers included Gianni Bianchi, Director of Inclusion, Lori Mackey Director of Special Schools, Juliet Herd and Paul Mansbridge from Cleeve Meadow School, and Sara Walton, TKAT Safeguarding and SEND Lead.

Feedback from the delegates, was positive, with delegates feeling that they came away from the event with a clear understanding of the TKAT Inclusion Strategy, knowledge of the resources and expertise available in their region and plans to develop the universal offer for SEND in their schools:

"Thanks for delivering a great CPD day. I came away feeling like I had acquired new knowledge but I didn't feel overwhelmed! A great balance!"

"I thought it was an excellent day; well organised, interesting and useful."

Thank you to all involved.
