TKAT were pleased to welcome Alex Quigley as keynote speaker at an online Autumn Reading Conference this month. Alex gave a virtual presentation via live webinar and spoke about ‘closing the reading gap’.

Alex is Senior Associate at the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) - an educational charity. In his role at the EEF, he supports the national network of EEF/IEE research schools, as well as working to support school improvement and develop campaigns to better understand aspects of teaching and learning, such as ‘metacognition and self-regulation’.

Alex is also a successful educational author and has written a number of successful books including 'Closing the Vocabulary Gap’, Closing the Reading Gap' and 'The Confident Teacher'. He regularly writes columns for TES and Teach Secondary magazines.

TKAT teachers and leaders came together to hear Alex and participate in the online event. The conference also included workshops for both primary and secondary schools, focussing on the Accelerated Reader software and sharing good practice. This gave delegates the opportunity to explore how best to support early and emergent readers, as well as share practical ideas for TKAT schools on the implementation of reading strategies.

Feedback from the conference was positive, with delegates enthused with new ideas to take back to their classrooms.

Thank you to all involved!
