All staff who may draw on counselling type skills in their work with children and young people

 

Overview of workshop:

At a time when mental health presentations in young people are at unprecedented levels and resources limited, we would like to offer schools the opportunity of training selected staff to manage early interventions with skills, strategies and confidence.

Hosted by Tara Cresswell:

Tara has been working in the field of Psychotherapy for 25 years, specialising in young people. She established and now manages the TKAT Counsellor in Training Programme and has created a Centre of Excellence at Thomas Bennett Community College, Crawley for Counselling provision.

Tara is a trainer and qualified tutor for counselling models, supervises counselling teams and is a consultant for Psychotherapy provision.

 

Objectives of workshop:

The Introduction to Basic Counselling Skills will include:

  • Basic skills/theory in counselling to support managing mental health presentation, complex issues, relationship building and behaviour management.
  • Strategies to support working with key presenting issues i.e. anxiety, self-harm, suicide ideation and crisis sessions.
  • Skills practice and feedback.
  • Exploration of ‘how safe are we to talk to’? Reflection of ourselves in the adult/student relationship.

Please note there is a £30 charge for this workshop. This will be cross charged to your school.

PARKING:

Car-parking is available for visitors to the Atkins Centre and Centre Staff alike at the front of the school, please enter by the gates from Sevenoaks Way (opposite Cornwall Drive). Please do not park in unmarked spaces, or in marked visitors’ spaces (unless previously booked). Parking is provided on a first come, first served, basis. If there are no spaces available there is alternative parking for Atkins Centre visitors on the roads surrounding the College. Please use the pedestrian access at the front of the College on Sevenoaks Way, if necessary.

Visitors to the Atkins Centre are advised that under no circumstances are they to seek to park/gain access via the rear of the College, to ensure the College maintains its safeguarding responsibilities.
