King Harold Academy hosts Scholar Programme in partnership with 'The Brilliant Club'

Every year, TKAT's King Harold Business & Enterprise Academy, Waltham Abbey, runs the Scholars Programme in partnership with the Brilliant Club (https://thebrilliantclub.org/).

The Year 9 students selected are on course for university and would benefit most from the programme’s key skills such as public speaking, research skills, teamwork and problem solving.

As they attend the weekly tutorials, students begin to build their self-confidence and conversational skills. After they have finished their weekly tutorials, students write a 1,500 mini dissertation on the subject that they have been learning about.

Students and their parents are always extremely proud of their achievements, and the graduation ceremony usually takes place at Oxford University.

The majority of the students who take part end up with excellent GCSE grades. The grades they gain from being part of the Scholars Programme can be used as part of their UCAS application and their experience can become part of the content of their personal statement.

KHA librarian and Programme lead Lisa Walls said: “The experience is very rewarding, especially when you meet ex-students and hear how well they’re doing. I love every second of it and I think every student I have seen through it would say the same thing.”
