TKAT's Shenstone School is an outstanding special school

We are delighted to announce that in its recent inspection, Ofsted judged Shenstone Special School to be outstanding in all categories. The inspection took place in June, and the final report has just been published.

Executive Headteacher Lori Ann Mackey said:

"I am absolutely delighted with all the positive things that inspectors recognised and highlighted at Shenstone. I am very proud to lead such a fantastic school and to have such a dedicated and outstanding staff team."

The inspection found that the school's ambition is exceptional, and that pupils make very strong progress due to the highly skilled staff team. The school demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of pupils' learning and development needs, has a clear and broad curriculum in place, and is particularly strong in delivering personalised curriculums. The early years curriculum demonstrates an exceptionally strong foundation focusing on language and communication, which provides an excellent starting point for all pupils.

In their report, inspectors said:

"Staff are vigilant, and routines are well embedded in the school. Staff teach pupils to develop autonomy through high-quality play and interactive experiences." The inspectors also said, "A holistic approach to pupils’ development sits at the centre of the curriculum. The curriculum provides pupils with the knowledge and skills they need to function in adulthood and to access the community, with increasing independence."

The inspection found that staff know the pupils exceptionally well. There were very strong responses to Parent View, and everyone talked about the excellent relationships and the school family. The inspection also found that the school is well led by knowledgeable and aspirational leaders at all levels.

TKAT's CEO Russell Hobby said:

"This is a fantastic achievement for Shenstone Special School to achieve Outstanding in all categories in its recent Ofsted inspection. It's testament to the ambition and hard work of all the staff, pupils and families. And it's wonderful to have such positive news as I start as TKAT's new CEO. I believe the Trust is in a strong place, and I'm looking forward to working with everyone and seeing more successes across all our schools."
