Ofsted recognise improvements at TKAT's Hylands School
We are delighted to announce that Ofsted has judged TKAT's Hylands School to be much improved following a monitoring inspection earlier this year, which highlighted a positive culture change.
Inspectors noted that:
- The improved environment is facilitating better learning, with inspectors observing that: “as pupils’ behaviour and staff expertise have improved, pupils have more opportunities to apply and discuss what they have learned.”
- The quality of the curriculum was also praised as “broad and increasingly ambitious.” The report said teachers are increasingly consistent and effective in their approach, with pupils confirming that they enjoy and engage with their learning. The school was also commended for the structured opportunities provided for reading, with inspectors noting that pupils make good use of the large and well-stocked library.
- "The school is a friendly and increasingly positive place to be. It is now the norm for pupils to be ‘responsible, respectful and resilient’."
- "The school has high expectations of how pupils should conduct themselves in lessons. Staff know how to apply rewards and sanctions in line with the school’s behaviour policy."
Headteacher Chris White said:
“We are delighted that Ofsted have recognised the improvements we have made to our school. Hylands is a transformed school and the improvements in our GCSE results this year make us one of the most improved schools nationally. This is testament to the hard work of our talented and dedicated team of staff and our wonderful students who are at the heart of all that we do.”

The school is eager to share its positive transformation with the local community and prospective parents and are hosting tours during the school day throughout October. Please contact the school office by email to book a visit: office@hylands-tkat.org.
