Exploring the Wonders of Digestion at Weyfield Primary Academy

Pine and Olive classes at Weyfield Primary Academy in Guildford have been getting hands-on with their science learning this week as they explored teeth, digestion, and the incredible journey our food takes through the body.

As part of their topic, pupils took part in an exciting (and sometimes delightfully messy!) experiment designed to demonstrate how the digestive system works. Using everyday materials, the children carefully recreated each stage of digestion - from chewing and swallowing to the stomach and intestines - watching how food is broken down and eventually transformed into waste.

The activity sparked plenty of curiosity, laughter, and excellent scientific thinking. Pupils asked thoughtful questions, made predictions, and discussed what they observed, helping them build a deeper understanding of how their bodies function.

Science lead staff said the experiment was a fantastic opportunity for children to learn in a memorable, practical way, supporting both knowledge and engagement across the curriculum.
