Chichester High School welcomes MP and local school leaders to introduce phone-free learning

Chichester High School welcomed Jess Brown-Fuller and leaders from 14 schools recently to highlight the impact of its phone-free policy.

Since October, the school has used YONDR pouches to store students’ phones securely during the day, becoming the first in Chichester to introduce the system. Phones remain locked away until the end of the day, helping to cut distractions, improve focus and encourage more face-to-face interaction.

Staff, students and families have supported the move, with the school reporting improvements in behaviour, concentration and socialising. Visiting leaders from across Sussex and Hampshire observed the system in action and discussed how similar approaches could work in their own schools.

Chichester High School also like to recognise the leadership of Assistant Headteacher Mr Robert Ward in driving the implementation of YONDR. From initial research and planning through to consultation with families, staff training and the smooth day-to-day rollout, he has overseen every stage with clarity and care.

Students say they are talking more at break times and concentrating better in lessons. Co-headteacher Dr Nicholas Taylor described the early impact as significant, while Chichester MP Jess Brown-Fuller praised the initiative and said stronger action is needed to protect young people from harmful online content.
