Drapers Mills Primary Academy wins Kent School Award for Resilience and Emotional Wellbeing

Drapers Mills Primary Academy, Margate has been awarded the  'Kent School Award for Resilience and Emotional Wellbeing' by the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust.

This award recognises all the hard work that goes into ensuring all areas of the school community are nurtured, supported and are able to access appropriate support if required. It demonstrates the commitment at Drapers Mills to adopting a whole-school approach to emotional health and wellbeing across the school community.

Headteacher Hannah Taylor said:

‘I am extremely proud of the hard work and dedication our staff show to the children in our care. Mental wellbeing is such an important starting point for a pupil's academic success and a crucial part of our children’s ability to thrive. We use various techniques to integrate wellbeing at a classroom level, from emotional wellbeing check ins and regulation stations, to sessions in our on site forest school and targeted intervention work. Alongside this, we offer parents support and referrals to outside organisations to promote the whole family's mental health as we recognise the impact this has on a child’s ability to achieve well in school.’

The Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust highlighted the following standout features in the school’s application:

  • Strong strategic and embedded approach of the senior leadership team across the whole school community
  • The wide ranging and targeted work to support and improve attendance
  • The support, engagement opportunities and resources offered to parents and carers
  • The many and varied curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities and clubs available to the pupils to support emotional wellbeing.
  • The strong ethos of pupil voice – listening and responding
  • CPD and support for staff development and wellbeing support
  • The targeted interventions/programmes and the ongoing identification and provision of support where necessary
